The uncompromising austerity of the plain white background leaves no room to hide. These political figures are exposed, fully. The camera is fixed, it’s view straddling the line between democratic observance and oppressive surveillance. Richard Avedon’s Rolling Stone feature ‘The Family’ from 1976 is the most highly evocative example of this much referenced style of photography. Below are a series of images of the original publication, photographed by sad-blog.

Rumors are running that Richardson Magazine is to launch a new issue, ‘A4′ this spring. Paradis will be getting some competition for the most high brow smut on the news stand.

This past summer I spent some time in France during the month of August. I was able to see the city of Nîmes as we headed south. The beautiful landscape mixed with the ancient ruins made for a wonderful visit. An old friend, Joachim Baan has been working for quite some time on a project inspired by the city of denim. He’s recently come out with journal number 4 to site nicely inside of the Tenue de Nîmes store, not in France, but Amsterdam. Be sure and check out the goodies and read through the digital edition if you can’t buy one. It’s the French issue.

“Our new Journal de Nimes Nº4 was officially launched this week. We decided to put our spotlights on France for this issue because the southern European country has always been a great source of inspiration for all of our concepts and activities. In this fourth release we publish our favorite French Treasures, such as diptyque and Ladurée vs. Nike. It also features another hand-drawn city map so with that in your pocket, you will not miss a single hot spot in the French capital. On top of this, our fourth Journal de Nîmes edition also contains the second part of Anneke Beerkens’ Masters research in youth culture and group dynamics in the underground Tokyo fashion scene, and we take an in-depth look at the history of the American shoe brand Red Wing.”
